Estimates, not advice
The calculators and guides on Main Street Numbers provide estimates and general information for educational purposes. They are not financial, tax, legal, accounting or investment advice, and they don't take your full circumstances into account. Before making a financing decision, review your contract and consult a qualified professional.
We're not a lender or broker
We don't make loans or advances, arrange financing, or receive compensation from lenders or funders for referrals. Nothing on this site is an offer of credit or a solicitation.
Accuracy
We work to keep formulas correct and data current, and we publish our methodology. But results depend on the inputs you enter and on simplifying assumptions (for example, level payments, no holidays, and fixed rates). Actual terms from a provider may differ. Fee schedules, tax limits and laws change; always check the current rules.
APR figures
Our estimated APR uses the actuarial method in Regulation Z, Appendix J, for comparison purposes. Business financing generally isn't subject to the Truth in Lending Act, and our figure isn't a legal disclosure. A provider's disclosed APR may differ because of different assumptions, such as a sales forecast.
Tax figures — important limitations
The self-employed tax calculators (quarterly estimated tax, 1099 vs W2, freelance rate, S-corp savings) are simplified models of selected federal rules. They are not a substitute for advice from a qualified tax professional (CPA or enrolled agent) who knows your full situation. Specific limitations:
- Federal only, limited state coverage. State income tax is modeled for nine no-income-tax states and six flat-rate states. All other states are excluded from the result; the calculator shows a notice when your state isn't modeled.
- Head-of-household brackets partially estimated. The 10%, 12%, and 22% HOH thresholds are estimated from 2025 values, not yet directly verified against the final IRS table for 2026. Results for HOH filers in those brackets may differ slightly.
- Deductions not modeled. The Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction, self-employed health insurance deduction, and HSA contributions are not included. These can meaningfully reduce your actual tax liability.
- S-corp "reasonable salary" is your input, not our determination. The calculator does not tell you what a reasonable salary should be. Setting it incorrectly is the most common way S-corp elections are challenged in an audit.
- Quarterly due dates. Standard calendar dates are shown. Dates that fall on a weekend or federal holiday shift to the next business day — verify on IRS.gov before paying.
Tax laws, rates, and deduction limits change each year. Always check the current rules and consult a tax professional before making material decisions based on these estimates.
Legal summaries
Our state law pages are plain-English summaries based on the sources cited on each page. They aren't legal advice and may not reflect the latest amendments or regulations.
