About Main Street Numbers

Last updated

Main Street Numbers is a set of free calculators that turn business financing quotes (factor rates, origination fees, SBA guaranty fees and lease payments) into numbers you can compare. There's no sign-up, and your figures never leave your browser.

Who's behind it

Alex Carter, finance writer and calculator developer.

Alex Carter is a finance writer and calculator developer. The goal behind every tool on this site: give you the exact number a paid professional would produce — instantly, privately, and free.

Why this site exists

Business financing is priced in ways that are hard to compare. A merchant cash advance quotes a factor rate, a short-term lender quotes a total payback, a bank quotes an interest rate, and fees can sit anywhere. Federal Truth in Lending rules don't apply to business credit, so there's often no standard APR. These calculators apply one consistent method to every offer, so you can see which really costs least.

What we are, and what we aren't

  • We are an independent calculator and education site.
  • We aren't a lender, broker, or financial, tax or legal adviser. We don't arrange financing or receive commissions from lenders.
  • We don't collect your financial information. The calculators run entirely in your browser.

How the site is funded

The site is supported by advertising. Ads are labeled "Advertisement", kept apart from the calculators and results, and never influence the calculations or what we write. We don't accept payment to feature or rank any provider.

How we check our work

Every calculation comes from tested engines with published formulas and test cases. Rates and fees come from primary sources such as the SBA, the IRS and the Federal Reserve, each with an as-of date. See themethodology and the editorial policy, and pleasetell us if you find an error.
